It wasn't until she left her first career in finance that Chef Mekdes rediscovered her true love: baking. She bowed out of a lucrative career in finance to be a full-time mom, and as her kids grew, so did the passion for baking that she'd cultivated growing up. Eventually, Mekdes' hobby flourished into a career. She opened Voila Pastry and Cafe in Alexandria with the goal of bringing high-quality baked goods to her customers.
The owner and her kitchen team continue to achieve this goal on a daily basis, dishing out breakfast pastries, classic European desserts, and coffee and tea to complement the treats. When you're craving something sweet in the morning, stop by for a Danish, a chocolate-filled croissant, or a muffin. Later in the day, indulge in a classic European dessert like a lemon tart, an eclair, or a slice of tiramisu. You can also savor a French macaron or one of the other assorted cookies that Chef Mekdes and her team bake on a daily basis.
